Thank you for this question. There does seems to be much confusion on the subject.

The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is recorded in Matthew 12, where the Pharisees after witnessing the MIGHTY power of God, through the miracles the Lord Jesus performed, rejected Christ and even said He casted out demons through Beelzebub. They ascribed the work of the Holy Spirit as being that of the devil. This is the "Blasphemy Against The Holy Ghost."

Now, we must understand something. These Pharisees KNEW the Scriptures. They were learned men and so the accountability was greater to them than to the common people, who did not have the Scriptures to read on a daily basis. Yet the people gave glory to God but the Pharisees, who knew the Scriptures and seen the power of God, attributed these miracles to the devil. THIS WAS THE BLASPHEMY against the Holy Spirit.

There are some who believe that a person can still blaspheme the Holy Ghost. This may be true but it would have to be the SAME case such as that like the Pharisees.

Rejecting Christ is not the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Pilate did not blaspheme-- yet many of the Pharisees did. So their case went BEYOND rejecting Christ into ascribing what they KNEW to be the power of God and saying it is "of the prince of devils". Remember what Nicodemus said to Jesus in John 3:2 "Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him." We know Nicodemus did not blaspheme; but the Pharisees, who heard the people say, "Is not this the son of David?" and they came back with "This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils." Yet Nicodemus said, "We know that thou art a teacher sent from God."

The Lord Jesus relied in Matthew 12:31-32: "All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."

IT IS CERTAIN that a true believer in Christ Jesus COULD NEVER commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. A true Christian can grieve the Holy Spirit, who indwells every believer, and can quench the Spirit-- but blasphemy, a believer CANNOT do.

Every believer is "sealed" with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13)of promise and He is the "earnest" of our salvation. We are secure in Christ Jesus. Just as a person has been born of woman, he cannot be unborn. The same applies that if one is born again of the Holy Spirit, he cannot be unborn.

Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

So if you are true believer in Christ Jesus, you cannot lose your salvation for every believer is KEPT BY THE POWER OF GOD. It is the Lord who saves us and keeps us saved and thus He deserves all the glory.

God bless you, brother. If you have any further questions, please feel free to post.
