Thank you for your reply. I have been scouring the internet for fundamentals who will allow me to answer the questions I have asked you, no one has answered me in the depth you have. Most of what I get is a quick answer that wants no rebuttle, and that has discouraged me from accpeting their stand, greatly.

I will agree that the CCM music industry is after the trends, and that their are many out their who couldn't make in the secular market, gave up, and now sing "godly" songs. This is what I thought until I heard a song that's potent lyrics brought my stubborn baptist heart to tears. As I have researched the band and their personal testimonies and other songs, I have found that they have significant depth to their lyrics. The preacher they have give messages at their concerts actually preached on Hell, I got their tour on DVD. I was shocked when he clearly showed us the Romans road, and then gave a clear cut salvation plan. This, unfortunatly, shows that some lyrics are so lukewarm God will spew them out, and others, are so very hot. leaving only the music in the argument.

To challenge the origin of rock would be stupid and pointless, but I will say that I disagree with you on the emotional side of things. I belive God does want emotion. I belive that the fruits of the spirit are in definition emotions, which are showed by actions. David danced before the Lord (Biblically he jumped and twirled) and to prove what he did was not wrong, God cursed Michal for speaking agaisnt it. Jumping in celebration takes emotion, and the many tearfilled moments in Bible history are by emotion. Emotion is what sets us apart from animals, and sets us in line with God.

However, not all emotions are godly. Music is said to be the language of the emotions, what the composer wants you to feel, he generates through music. You then feel what music communicates. If not all emotions are godly, then not all music is godly.

The thing I have trouble with then, is that secular rock obviously generates rebellion, lust, and other sins, but heavy metal and rap set aside, there is that soft rock/pop group that seems to have a few, not many even, but a few who are sincere in their walk with the Lord, who produce music. The audience of this music (the more pure the lyrics the more true this statement is) often refrains from swinging of the hips or sensual things. It seems coupled with these words the music then gives of a completely different spirit.

The spirit of the one who is singing nearly always effects how we view the song. (at least it always has for me) You can have a choir get up and sing who is lacking a heart for God, and the song sounds good, but does little for God and us. On the other hand, you can have a sweet ederly woman, who can miss every note, and hardly make it through the song, yet carry an amazing sense of a true relationship with God and a powerful testimony. If this is true, then (I am in the middle still at this point) is it possible that the spirit of the one singing even CCm would still bless God and us as it was intended.

Of course all that means little if emotions are ungoldy, but the Bible is full of emotion, and examples of not just sober emotions, but passiontate moments that can hardly be containt within its pages.
