Date Posted: 16:32:14 01/14/05 Fri In reply to: Sybil Shearin 's message, "TBN" on 23:09:41 01/11/05 Tue I agree with you. These types of ministries you are talking about prey on the poor. Jesus told us to give to the poor. Most prosperity preachers are not poor and it is a sin to beg money from those who have none...promising them outrageous returns. We should give to the Lord's work but it is our duty to research the ministries we support. Christians should beware of many "Prosperity Preachers" who live in opulent wealth funded by the middle class and poor class people. Read our article on the Prosperity Gospel Also another article we have on our site is called Laying Up Treasures. The L.A. Times recently did a piece on Paul Crouch back in September that you might want to check out. Check these links out: Ministry Watch- excellent resource for investigating ministries Check out this article on TBN and the Crouch family. Just an excerpt of what it says: "In 1998, a former TBN employee, convicted felon and drug user Enoch Lonnie Ford, was paid $425,000 for agreeing not to publicize Mr. Ford’s allegations that he and TBN founder Paul Crouch had a homosexual tryst two years earlier. TBN denies the accusations made by Ford regarding the relationship between he and Mr. Crouch, but admit to paying out the funds to keep the allegations quiet. While TBN says no ministry funds were used to pay the settlement, it is unclear whether an insurer, the Crouches or another third party made the payment. Such payments should be not be made in the first place and, if made, should be made public if donors are to be fully informed. • TBN vigorously worked to keep the information regarding the settlement with Mr. Ford private. Such concealment should cause donors to question if other such unannounced payments have been made." >I have a very hard time with ministries who are >constantly begging from the poor widows and such when >they live in such lavishly adorned mansions. My >mother gives to them monthly and she nearly has enough >to pay for her medication. Maybe I am wrong but Jesus >never had the time to live in luxury for He was busy >about the Father's business. This bothers me a great >deal about any ministry that does this. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
