I say Rand's fighting a bigass battle, in a small moment of comic relief he trips and falls, smacking his face on a rock, bleeds, curses up a storm, realizes how incredibly stupid the prophecy's fulfillment was and kills himself accidently with his sword while waving it about in glee, spilling even more blood on the rocks and thus fulfilling the prophecy.
