A few days had passed, Dashell becoming less and less visable around the dojung. Lines of worry wrinkled an otherwise smooth face, despite his age. Simple watched with a quiet concern. Strange to feel concern here when she never had for her former mentor. Why be afraid? Kyuusai's question still rung in her mind. He truly didn't know, he had come after that series of events had transpired. He couldn't be more than sixteen at the oldest, and that was if you judged him to look young, so why should she assume that he would even remember?
He felt timeless, that was why. As timeless as Jonath Forwynd. Even as timeless as Alteria had felt the first time she had entered its gates.
Patiently, repeatedly, she had corrected his grammer. Reminding him over and over again that Common was a strange language and he shouldn't become frustrated with it. He never seemed to, though. Nothing frustrated him, only frightened him when he thought Dashell might become angry. Dashell was never angry, she had mentioned that as well.
Control of language was a first step, teaching and styling his words took control on his part. A bit of forethought where the other language he spoke could spill so easily from him. Simple related that to his abilities, his skills and talents. Why use a whirlwind when a strike would meet the same effect? Why over-extend when your movement was already enough to remain unharmed? He learned remarkably fast, he had since the first day he arrived in Escalvone.
Three days had passed now, Dashell was pacing the dojung, looking eagerly at the door as though waiting for someone to enter. It made her skin crawl.
Kyuusai had been introduced to the bath house after numerous reports of him bathing in the outside stream came into light. Warm water was better, she had explained, it opened your skin to being cleaned much better than the cold water was able. Later, he would learn the value of each. Why teach a whirlwind when simplicity would do? He should be there now, though one could never be certain.
Dashell paused, checking the doorway again, then resumed his vigil. She felt herself shiver. Dashell was never angry, and he was never worried. Why did he pace now?
