They reached Escalvone just as dawn was ending, knights and nobles, ladies, men, farmers, every last one of them landing just outside of the city walls so that they might not alarm the Escalvone. There were not quite one hundred of them, so bare had Hogoromo been when they had left. Too many ahd gone with Damuthca initially and too few had returned with Johan.

"Here we go." Tyrsis looked at Myuler, the look on her face pale and wanting. She needed a smile, a pat on the back. Anything that might let her know that they understood, that at least one person out of many new what she was walking into.

Garent wings folded tight against her body and she approached the watch, stopping ten feet away to announce her party, to mention the bird-carried message of earlier. Things would be in Damuthca's hands from there. His hands and his alone were the one's she would place his sword in. Golden eyes glittered, and she waited.
