Tiani leaned down and picked Yomi up, leathery wing flash-bladed and spread in front of herself and the child to keep her head safe while she bent over. She doubted her father would let the woman near enough to harm her, but precaution was a beautiful thing that Onimaru had taught her a long time ago.

"Hush, Yomi. Big sis is here." She straightened, wing still around the child protectively. They looked nothing alike.
