新約學者都認為馬可福音是共觀福音書中最原始的一本福音書,馬太、路加皆部份取材自馬可.在馬可 3:5 可看到耶穌更人性的描寫: “怒目” 在另外兩本福音書 (太 12:11, 路 6:10) 已沒有再出現了.另一個例子可看到馬可更現實. 可 1:34 指耶穌治好部份的人, 在太 8:16 及路 4:40 已擴大成治好全部的人.

今天,耶穌的神性常被強調.但他人性的一面,在福音書中,其實也非常重要:
他受試探、他需要受洗禮、他禱告、在客西馬利園求除去苦杯.他也曾經強調自己與神的分別(當有人稱他為良善的夫子時,他回答說只有神是良善的; 可 10:18, 路 18:19). 如理解耶穌為神,這些例子便帶來一些神學問題.例如神可否受試探,神受的試探是否真試探.為何神要受洗?神禱告向誰禱告,是否真正的禱告?我們了解耶穌,最佳的辨法是從他的人性出發,之後才進到他的神聖.先考慮他的人性有如下好處:
1. 我們是人,他的人性較易被明白.
2. 這樣不會浪費他以人的樣式來世.忽視他的人性可以說是一種損失.
3. 我們是人,了解人性出錯的機會較低.我們以人的能力嘗試了解他的神性容易出錯.

路 4:1 稱耶穌被聖靈引到曠野. 如已討論過的,如說耶穌是神,那神為何需要聖靈引導?

耶穌在太 5:48 中指出,人可以完善到到達神的地步,即人可以成為神!
