In my time at secondary school, I met 3 different teachers teaching Religious Studies.
The first one taught me from Form 1 to Form 3, a Chinese, typical of a more conservative Christian background. Fortunately, the school curriculum permitted students to do projects on differnt religions, e.g. Islam, Buddism etc.
Of course heavy emphasis on Christianity (my school was Anglican, probably more open).
The second one an English lady, who is also a voluntary worker in the Samaratans. More conservative, but again permitted open discussion.
Later on, some teachers of a more "Evangelical" background or "Fundamentalist" background joined, and obviously things began to change
