It is strange to have fundies today claiming to use Bible as an excuse to support their sexist, racist, homophobic views.
It is also very important for Liberal Christians to realize that Church stands on equality was improved not by traditionists who try to hold on to their status quo, but by Liberal Christians who see the world through God's eyes.
We don't have to look far to see that slavery existed in Christ time. It is also noted that abolishment of slavery were advocated not by traditionist Christians but by liberal Christians of the time.
If the church was controlled by the traditionists, then we may still see slavery in today's world.
As for gender issue, the traditionists (sexists) in church were arguing if women have souls at all in a few hundred years ago. The sexists/traditionists were also blaming women for everything, burning them as witches because they were independent, and preaching about women were easily tempted by Satan.
If traditionists/sexists still have their ways, women were still at risk of buring alive, or sell into slavery in the guise of marriage.
It is fortunate that there were reasonable people, Liberal Christians that uphold equality in the eyes of God as the ultimate standard and stand firm against sexists who used tradition as an excuse to oppress women.
We couldn't depend on the traditionists/sexists/homophobes fundies in church to correct themselves. Sometimes, we need laws, general support outside of church in order to set the church straight.
I would dare any sexist fundie to suggest to any rape victim family, for their daughter to marry the rapist, instead of putting the rapist in jail.
Fundies like those who will explain every injustice as the 'will of God' are sick in the mind. They could no longer interact with the world with humanity. It is a sad fact that there are so many of them in today's chruch.
Liberal Christians have to be steadfast in their stand on equality, human rights and civil rights for all, including those who are traditionally oppressed by church going fundies.
