This is an excellent example. More and more stores are doing this. For example, DSW tracts how much you spend and when you have reached a certain total they send you a coupon good for "x" amount of dollars good towards your next purchase. It give the customer an incentive to keep shopping and purchase more to earn these rewards.

Credit Card companies are also doing this. Depending on what bank you have your credit card through they reward you points for purchasing certain things with your credit card. These points are turned into cash at the end of the year or used towards something.
