Author: Deacon Tom Buenavista of Farola SAS Class 1957-58
Subject: I remember Mr. Vicente Las Marias (Maestro Ente). Unless you made it to his class you weren't considered to be in High School. He was a scholarly man, always wore those horn-rimmed glasses with pipe in hand. He was mild mannered and soft spoken. In his class no student ever got bored. His stories about Tagudin's history rivals those given in the oral tradition usually related in informal get-togethers. It was during my senior year that I had Mr. Las Marias as my English/Literature teacher. The textbook was Silas Marner. He knew the story inside out. Should a student try to participate in class using fabrications and little white lies to cover-up his not having done the assignment, Maestro Ente would always know. He could sniff a BS artist a mile away. He was a straight shooter, a strict disciplinarian and a shining example for us all. It was a privilege for me to have learned under his tutelage. (To be continued)
