Subject: Reaching Out

And all the believers met together constantly and shared everything they had. They sold their possessions and shared the proceeds with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity--all the while praising God and enjoying hte goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved. Acts 2: 44-47

A couple months ago, I remember talking to one of my buddies. We were talking about various things and life in general. I remember I asked him about a particular campus ministry organization he used to attend; I asked him why he no longer went. He procceded to tell me, he didn't really feel welcomed there. "They don't really try to reach out to people and it doesn't seem like they care if I'm there or not." I empathized with his feelings. I could remember different places I had gone where it seemed like no one cared about you. They only greeted those they knew and if you didn't happen to be one of them, they ignored you. No one likes that. All to often, I feel we as Christians often times do this as well. Whether purposefully or not, we don't step out of our comfort zones to meet new people, be interested in their lives and realize that they too, are children of God.

I wish we could have a community as the early Christians did, one of complete love, respect, humility, and compassion for one another. One in which we honored each other above ourselves. One in which we unconsciously put others feelings and needs above ourselves. One which is remarkably different than any 'secular' club or organizations. One in which you don't have to be attractive, popular, smart, well-spoken, wealthy, funny, clever, of a particular race, ethnicity, or color. This kind of community is what I want to be about. This is the kind of community that will grow and change the world. In my opinion, this is the only kind of community really worth being part of.

In thinking over the words I have written, I can't but help but to ask myself how am I advancing the gospel and love of Christ? So, my challenge to all of us is this: meet 15 new people this week. People you would never really think about talking to. Get to know them and perhaps invite them to church, CSF, FCA, CRU, BSU, or wherever with you. Share the love, gospel and hope of Christ. Take care and have a good week.

"People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."

But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. James 1:22
