- Trinity Irish Dance Company: Audition/Workshop during Mid West & Western Region Oireachtas -- Michael Carr, 11:52:35 11/14/05 Mon
Dear Dancer,
The Trinity Irish Dance Company will be holding auditions at this year’s Western and Mid Western U.S. Regional Championships. New company members will be considered for our 2006 spring tour, and beyond. We would like to take this opportunity to individually invite you to participate.
Ellen Gahl, Rehearsal Director, and several company members are conducting auditions at
Western Region:
Double Tree Hotel (835 Airport Blvd, Burlingame, CA 94010)
Less than a mile from the Hyatt.
Mid-Western Region:
Galbreath Pavilion at the Ohio theatre, 55 E. State St. Columbus, OH
(less than a mile from the Hyatt Regency).
We will be meeting, working out, and giving dancers an idea of what TIDC is all about. We may have immediate positions available but the main focus of these sessions is to get to know the dancers that are interested in the Trinity Irish Dance Company for the future.
Auditions in San Francisco
will be held on Saturday, November 19th from 7:00Pto 9:00P
or ½ hour after completion of results.
Auditions in Columbus
Friday, November 25, 8:00P to 10:00P
or ½ hour after completion of results
& Sunday, November 27, 11:00A to 1:30P.
We encourage all dancers to attend one of the auditions even if you have attended an audition in the past. We would like to take this opportunity to see you again and update our files. You should contact me via email at dmahoney04d@aol.com or call773.549.6135 ext. 15 and leave a message to confirm attendance or obtain more details. However, walk-ins are welcome so please encourage all of your friends that are interested in the company to attend as well.
While dancers under the age of 17 do not tour with the company, we are happy to begin a dialogue, and keep a file on dancers from 14 years and up. If you will not be attending this year’s Oireachtas you may call or email me about sending an audition video. It is also possible to set up a meeting with the company if we happen to be in your hometown. Audition Videos can be sent to:
Trinity Irish Dance Company
c/o Deirdre Mahoney
2936 N. Southport
Chicago, Il 60657
It has been another outstanding year for the Trinity Irish Dance Company. Last year we had a month long tour of Japan and an ambitious spring tour with “Different Drums of Ireland,” the hot, new percussive Northern Irish Band. In addition to the ground breaking collaboration with Different Drums, the company offered several premiers including The Black Rose and Goddess. The company’s work has been described as “Intoxicating” by the New York Times, “Awesome” by the L.A. Times and the Washington Post said, “Trinity mounted an astonishing attach!” The integrity and breadth of the company’s work is unrivaled.
The Trinity Irish Dance Company is the world’s only nonprofit professional Irish Dance Company, performing and touring nationally and internationally. The academic career of company members is one of the company’s primary focuses. The performing arts and this Company provide a wonderful balance for extraordinary young people between their academics and the arts.
Thank you for your incredible contribution to this beautiful art form and we look forward to talking with you.

- Calling All Irish Dancers: Irish Dance Costume Survey -- Elizabeth Venable, 15:51:50 07/14/05 Thu
Calling All Irish Dancers: Irish Dance Costume Survey
I am a doctoral student studying Irish dance costumes and accessories. I would be very interested in getting your input, information, and opinions about Irish dance costumes that you own and that you have seen in your dancing career. All responses are sent to me for research purposes, and you can select how private or public you want the information to be. I want to hear everyone's opinions on Irish dancing costumes, so please help me out.
If you are a parent, dressmaker, or male dancer please help me by adapting the survey- I have tried to leave open options so that lots of people can participate!
http://www.diochra.com/media/feature-costumesurvey.htm
Ashe from Diochra.com has been very kind and has allowed me to host this survey on her site, which by the way is a great resource for Irish dancers, so please feel free to visit the site in addition to filling out the survey.
Thanks so much! Elizabeth Venable

i'm an open champ dancer and will be attending college soon (not this coming year)
i'm not sure where i'm going yet but if i decide not to stay local, i will continue dance- my question is if i am out of region and switch schools, do you wait the 6 month probation and miss the oireachtas? and if you do compete in the oireachtas with a new school, do you attend the one that the school is registered in or the one in which you are from?

- Balancing My Day -- Amy Garden, Australia, 14:50:12 02/11/03 Tue
'm not a college student, but am in year 6, Australia.
My mum makes us a timetable - its the only way we cope. I have 3 younger brothers, one of them dances as well. In the morning before school I feed my rabbit, do half an hour of violin and half an hour of piano. We walk to school - 10 minutes.
After school, we rest, then do dance practice or go to a lesson. My lessons are quite far from home, but I love my teacher and friends. After dinner I do my homework and half an hour of french horn.
While I'm doing all of this my mum sews Irish dance dresses - this is the only way we can afford all the dance and music lessons.
I'm going to be doing a webpage myself soon, it will be on my mum's site irish-dress.com
Bye.

Did anyone notice what a great Irish Dance Drama Team performance the first team to compete at the ER Orireachtas was? I was waiting for the announcement of my competion awards when I watched this team I beleive from the O'Leary school of Dance perform a difficult set of steps with people of all ages perform a modern dance drama. They blew me away with their difficult moves. Unfortunately the team that followed them won first place and their steps were real simple and not as energetic as the first group . I couldn't understand how doing a back flip is part of Irish dance.. Anyway to the membersof of O'Leary School of Dance you did a gwonderul job and hope to see this group agian next year as they really entertained us all.

Hi everyone~ I just discovered this board and am hoping some of you can give me some advice. I am headed to college out in philadelphia this fall(i just graduated high school) and am going back and forth on whether or not to continue dancing in college. On one hand, I know it will be tricky juggling a schedule of dancing working and school, but on the other hand i really don't want to give dancing up. I want to find a way to make it work. What were some of your experiences with balancing dance with everything else your freshman year? How was changing dance schools? Were your new dance teachers helpful with you being a college student an everything?

I'm really excited about this. I've qualified for my solo dress ( those of you that know me know this already but oh well) and have been looking high and low for one. Anyway, there's a mom at my school that my mom knows really well, and this mom made her daughters solo dress and has offered to do the same for me. The kicker? She said just pay for the material and she wouldn't really charge us. Her exact words were " I'm sure your daughter can helpme out with something in exchange" This mom does really nice work too. Hehe, really excited. Anyway, since we are all mature adults on this beautiful board...I was wondering if any of you guys had any sort of fun ideas for the dress. I'm thinking of going with a satiny peach ( just to be different) and am torn when it comes to designs. Thanks for letting me ramble. :)

Hey, I'm not a college student *yet* (21 days to graduation YAY!) but I have a question about how you handled changing schools. I currently live in Louisiana and will be attending college in Boston. Did your old teacher help you get a place in a school? What was it like the first day of class? I don't really know what I'm asking, I'd just kind of like some info on your experiences with changing dance schools with starting college. Also I can't really work out a commuter-type thing, for one thing because of the distance and for another because my family is moving to New Jersey, so I won't even be going back to LA for breaks, etc. Also how hard did you find it to continue dancing in college? I'm an English major (or will be) and I'm currently Novice/PW.
Thanks for your help!

Hey you guys! I've just found this board and love it! What an awesome resource for the college age IDers out there! I have a question though. I have the WORST time finding adequte practice time. I always have papers to do, exams to study for, etc etc etc. I don't choose other things over my dancing, i simply don't have time to do other things besides school! I usually go out on a date or two every weekend, but well that's a necessary thing too... lol! Anyways i guess i am asking how you guys manage it. I am coming off of a broken foot (been out of dancing for almost a year) and intend to start competing this coming fall after getting back into things this summer. I just don't know how i am going to fit it into my life again like i did when i was in high school! Any suggestions besides getting 4 hours of sleep?! (Hey Eirelibra... just wanted to tell ya hi!!) Thanx you guys!

- Well, you know how you get boared of studying and flop down to watch TV, or chat on line, or talk to your roomate about stupid stuff....that time adds up, so if you "budget" your time, you can squeeze in practce for dance, what's even better is if you make a regular time for dance practice and treat it like a class, it doesen't even need to be that long, but a little bit is better than none at all. Hi
I'm moving two hours aways from my dance school next year, but I'm going to be coming home every two weeks for 4 hours of dance class to make up for missed week. However, this isn't my problem.
I'm going to, more than likely, be living in rez. What should I do as far as praticing and keeping the noise down? Any other helpful hints on dancing and education at the same time?

- When I lived in the dorms, I practicied in my room sometimes. i lived on the fourth floor so i had to do it in the day when i wouldnt bother the girl under me too much. but other times i would go into the theater at my school after hours and practice on the stage cuz its usually ok to do hardshoes on it. or try the green room.either way its a pain. i live at home now. - The theatre at my college is open 24/7 and people use it for all sorts of stuff, so I just go in there at night, when no one ever is int here, and practice away. No one's complained, and sometimes people even come in and watch. Also, learn how to mannage your time sooner rather than later, or you could end up with an active "life"(but no "social" life) so-so grades, and 4 years of sleep deprivation like me. (NT) -- Sno, 21:43:11 04/17/01 Tue
- I totally agree with Eiretash on the subject of dance departments... they are okay about softshoe, but won't let you hardshoe... really stinks... I use sheets of plywood on sheets of carpet in my dorm basement, and yes, I do get weird looks from girls in and out to do laundry... (NT) -- EireLibra, 12:20:41 04/27/01 Fri

Ok, this message has nothing to do with ID, but, the postings been slow. The main board had a thread about the Harry Potter Books and the upcomming Movie. I would like to know if we've got any HP fans on this board? And if you are, what house are you in?

Hey everyone. I'm having a college crisis sort of. I want to change my major... but right now I don't know what I want to get into. I'm not happy with all this business stuff so I'm thinking about getting away from it asap. How many time have all u college people changed your major?
Also, does anyone know what the age is to take the TCRG? I think its 25 but I'm not sure. Anyone planning on, or hoping to attempt it in their future? Any future dance teachers out there?
Hope everyone's St. Pat's was wonderful!

Because it should be known, I'm saying it. Suzi is the new irish dancer of the month at Irish dance usa ( that right isn't it?) any way, I just thought the word should get out, it couldn't have happened to a better person, she really deserves it. Congrats Suzi.

egads.... Next fall I'll be starting college at ASU!!
as for balancing busy life and dance, not so good at it, It tends to fall apart occasionally...... actually I was shocked that my spring band trip and the extra band practices, and our assorted parades actually dont coincide with any feiseanna, and very few dance classes! yay!
