Okay, after a bit of Googling, all I come up with is that Darrow's friend's father was the first owner of The Palatine Hotel and that's why he was visiting Newburgh. Is that even close?
I have another anecdote about a fire at The Palatine Hotel, which I'm sure you've all heard me tell before. On September 22, 1957, there was a small electrical fire in the hotel's kitchen while they were preparing our wedding reception dinner! The fire was quickly extinguished but we had no air conditioning for the entire reception! Of course it just happened that it was a very hot, muggy September day! The marriage survived, though!
