From "The Mid Hudson Times", about the New York Central/West Shore Station at 35 Water Street which is 100 years old this year........A new owner has bought the building and begun to stabilize and restore it. That explains the scaffold around the area at the present time. The beautiful railroad station, designed by the famous architectural firm of Warren and Wetmore, is one of a series built along the New York Central's east coast line at the turn of the last century. Poughkeepsie, our neighboring Hudson River City, has a Warren and Wetmore station fully restored after years of neglect. Now it is not only a fine transportation hub for Dutchess County but it's station is a tourism spot with murals and kiosks of information about the area. The Warren and Wetmore firm was known for their great railroad stations like Detroit and the grandest of all, Grand Central in New York City. So, when the scaffold comes down, at 35 South Water Street, we can all say Happy Birthday to a worthy landmark and continue to preserve it with the respect it deserves.
