Let's give this topic a shot...
After hearing them mentioned on the radio last week, I found a roll of Necco Wafers at a local shop that specializes in the supply of cany confections of our youth. A few weeks before that, I tried for an Oh Henry candy bar from the same place, but ended up having to order it from some service in Toronto. I'm interested in tasting these to see if my flavor buds and/or their recipes have changed from 50+ years ago. I've sampled what Nestle now markets as Raisinets, but they've changed the taste and texture of the chocolate coating, and I found them to be revolting. Most of these delights I remember from purchases at theater candy counters in Newburgh back in the 1940's. Good old Reese's Peanut Butter Cups still taste the same, but I wonder about Goldenberg's Peanut Chews? And Jujy Fruits and Charms? And those tooth-filling/pulling little things called Ju-Ju-Bees? Today, they wouldn't pull my absent fillings out, they'd pull my teeth out. What are some other Wackoo favorites from back in those innocent times?
