Subject: Future of Ham Radio

The environment in which the amateur enjoys radio communication has changed dramatically over the last 5 years. Technical, commercial and political changes taken against a background of an ageing amateur population present IARU Region 1 with major challenges if it is to play its part in leading amateur radio into the future.

Some studies have put the average age of radio amateurs as high as 55-60 years old, made up almost completely of males.
