Subject: Radio Range Testing

I read the document of test of Radio Range. The Transponder Method is very interesting. However, I still couldnot get it. One radio will connect to a PC which has installed a simplex repeater. The other radio transmits and receives the signal in different locations, right? How could the transmission range be measured? does it just listen to the echo to measure the transmission range? Please, Help. I am doing the radio range testing now, really need some help. Plz. deeply appreciate.
