She probably meant to use that term in conjunction with, and to reinforce, her point about seeing ourselves in a new light by seeing that which shows up in the (apparent) outside world, or that reflection or shadow of us that shows up in the presence of others. That said, I'm sure it would occur as a compliment if that which showed up in the complement was pleasing to us! Hope that added something.
