welcome to my world! The world of I am in my head and it is not that fun in here---and heck I always end up alone. I don't have the answers because I am on your side of the table most of the time....but...

Here is what I would do (in my clearest moments): say it with love. Know that they are as unsure and unsteady and wanting to please you as you are them. See them as you. Open your heart. And when it wants to close--keep telling it to open (this is the hardest part). And when you want to leave--stay and maybe come in closer (this is also very hard). And when you want to get angry--turn up the love volume (also not easy). This love stuff ain't easy--take the harder road most of the time (ie. it is easy to leave, easy to get angry, easy to blame...).

Now, if I could just take my own advice......
