For me, in group...we were taught to look at small, inconsequential things in our life...that way, you didn't always try to encompass your whole life into your every day! We did the hand thing too...and to this day...when I am really worrying or anxious..I look at my hands...I don't know if that means anything to you now...but for me, it puts things into perspective.

Higher functioning...well sweetie, I know you have coped better than most and that is something to be aware of. Without your coping skills...whether constructive or destructive...are survival skills that you have learned through your whole life.

As for the guy that stormed out...I think he got scared and realized..that he was "one" of you...and that frightened him...he will have to learn to look at himself and that is not something that comes easy.

I can't say it will work..or not..but what it taught me, was it was going to be a time of little things to examine and look at...and to free my mind for that short time, from the whole picture!
