I think you are doing wonderfully well, considering all the circumstances.

Gently setting some boundaries with your son seems wise. But don't forget that he may still crave the nurturing he missed as a child too. Expecting him to be a grownup overnight or even in a year or two is a stretch. Kids take years to grow up. Most eventually do.

Stay the course. Enjoy the small comforts and good moments.
