I'm lucky in that I have good insurance through my job and meds are relatively cheap, although every year the cost goes up.

I screwed up this year by putting too much money in my health care FSA and I am going to lose a couple of thousand dollars.

In the past I have always had high medical and especially dental with the kids and have blown through my FSA.

Last year when I realized I was going to lose money, it was the day after it was too late to change my elections for this year.

So for next year I am thinking about using a high deductible low cost plan where I will be self insured for the first couple of grand but I can put money in an HSA which is similar to an FSA but you dont lost it if you don't use it.

Which means I would get a tax deduction on the money I am using to self insure my medical costs. It's so confusing and hard to know what to do.

But back to the original topic about switching meds. Meds don't really help me. I have been on many of the ones on the market, Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Zoloft, Lamictal, Remeron, Lexapro, etc. and got no relief (but lots of side effects).

Right now I am on Wellbutrin and trying to decide if I should raise the dose or give up on meds. On the whole I feel worse on meds than off meds. I still battle depression and I also have that "medicated" feeling.

But sometimes I feel so bad off meds that I feel like I have to try another one. In other words, if I don't take meds, I can't keep whining about how bad I feel. And my Pdoc says there are people who try many, many meds and do finally find the one that does the magic trick.

I think it is ironic that so many people who take meds continue to have to fight depression. Of course I am aware that some people really do feel much better.

I hope you get through the med change and that the "new" med works for you as well as the old.

Liz
