Subject: Open Platform Organizations?
In reply to: Coll 's message, "Small groups" on 22:29:33 11/09/07 Fri

Take heart > there are LOTS of Open Platform organizations in the world and they are growing in size daily! :) Some of the Open Platform organizations are "new" ie, within the past couple of years, while others are 10 or 20 years old!

Check out the following ... they both have a wealth of information about Open Platform Irish Dancing ...

http://voy.com/226089/ (this is a forum dedicated to Open Platform discussions)

http://irishdancinginfo.co.uk/default.aspx (attempts to list all organizations - Closed platform and open platform .. although it does take some weeding out to figure under which category each is ...)

Good Luck in your search to find an organization that matches your dance school philosophy ... I am sure there is at least one organization out there that will! :)

As of today (Nov 18, 2011) .. the following is a list of Open Platform; Partially Open Platform; and Closed Platform organizations that I have been able to define ... Please note that the organizations listed under the Open and Partially headings are ones I have actually communicated with and asked specifically about Open Platform feis opportunities ... so I can confidently offer that listing to you. At the bottom of the listing is another heading of organizations that I have "heard" about but have not received confirmation from them as to their position on Open Platform feis/events, etc.

Open Platform Irish Dance Organizations (listed in alphabetical order)

Irish Dancing schools and/or teachers will often align themselves or be members of an Irish Dancing Association or Federation. These organizations operate as governing bodies with constitutions and have in many cases, set instructional curriculum and competition (feis) rules. There are many different organizations and they have been listed in alphabetical order according to the degree in which they offer and participate or encourage participation in Open Platform Feiseanna and Events. I've also included a contact email so that you can approach them with your individual questions. Good Luck in your search to find an organization that matches your dance school philosophy ... I am sure there is at least one organization out there that will! :)

FULLY OPEN ORGANIZATIONS:

CRG - Cumann Rince Gaelach, Linda at: familydolan@eircom.net

CLRG and it's associated organizations operated as Closed Platform with regards to competition, feis, and events to non-members.

An Comhdhail. ( http://www.irishdancingorg.com/comh/) An Comhdhail operates as Closed Platform with regards to competition, feis, and events to non-members.

ORGANIZATIONS I HAVE HEARD OF BUT DO NOT KNOW WHERE THEY SIT ON OPEN PLATFORM SPECTRUM: so some may be Open while others may be Closed?)
