Subject: Grissom's Character Development

Spoilers at the beginning of the season stated that Grissom would mature over the year, and that we would see new sides of his character. Now that we are nearing the season finale, what new aspects of his personality have we seen? How has he matured and changed over the past few months?

For one, I think he’s grown more considerate toward those he cares for and works with. When it came time for Catherine’s evaluation, he intentionally left the Sam Braun compromised murder trial fiasco out of it. Knowing it would unnerve Sara to see her deceased look-a-like, he made sure she wasn’t allowed into the nurse’s house. When Nick accidentally gave vital case information to his old baseball buddy, Grissom didn’t make a big deal out of it.

Also, one of my favorite plotlines of the season is when TPTB brought back Officer Fromansky, involved in the supermarket shooting. Despite the hostile feelings he had previously displayed toward Grissom, Gil kept his cool and didn’t let his personal resentment toward the man interfere with his duties.

Those are just a couple of the observations I’ve made. How about you all?

[> Excuse me? As one who is about Grissom's age, I am laughing my six off at the inference that he even NEEDS to mature! We made it this far, why change? Also, doesn't this sound strangely familiar--like the description of Harm becoming "more" sensitive two years ago? Why is it we always have to change? Is it because we all have CBS' publicists? -- Postrider, whose tired ol' hazel eyes are going green with envy over all you gals salivating over ol' Griss!, 13:22:11 05/04/04 Tue [1]

[> [> I wasn't the one who worded the spoilers, Posty... I'm just using the term they did. While I love him the way he is, it's my personal belief that ALL people, no matter what age they are, have room for improvement in their lives. Just a thought. -- DJEgirl... posting and heading outside to ride Savvy, 15:50:19 05/04/04 Tue [1]

[> [> [> Improvement is something quite different. Maturity is something we all do, like it or not, and even a wine which matures to make it better, has nothing to do but just stay in the cask until its time has come, so it is a passive action. Grissom getting older means more experienced, and that he has become! -- Postrider, whoever wrote the spoiler that you posted, DJEgirl, left the wrong inference, I believe. I hope your ride went well., 16:15:50 05/04/04 Tue [1]

[> Newbie question here. I've only started watching CSI this season, so I'm a little behind on things. Believe me, finding copies of the other seasons' shows is high on my "to do" list. In the mean time, I'll probably be asking a lot of questions, if that is alright. Today's question... could someone please explain what went on with Catherine and the Sam Braun compromised murder trial. I have never understood that. What is their connection, if any? What was that check about? (that was from him, right??) Did she compromise the evidence? Sooo many questions, I know! -- inquisitivenewbieJulie ... sorry I can't make any comparisons to see how Griss has "matured," or what new sides to his character we have seen ... but I like what I see! [> [> Julie, questions are the best way to learn! Inside... -- DJEgirl, 15:47:32 05/04/04 Tue [1]

Sam Braun dated Catherine's mother for years, and basically helped to raise Catherine from an infant. They've always been close, and Cath had been wondering for a while if she and Sam were biologically related. In last year's finale, she investigated the murder of a showgirl at one of his casinos... ended up he killed the woman, and Catherine used the DNA taken from the crime scene to compare with hers. The results showed he's her father. However, her use of evidence in a personal matter compromised the murder case, and it was thrown out of court, setting Sam free.

The check was "a gift"... he admitted that he was using it to get her to talk to him. She cashed it later on in the year, and we haven't seen Sam since (that I can think of, at least).

Does this help?

[> [> [> Ah!!!!! Yes, that does help!!! Thanks so much, DJEgirl!!!! Don't quite understand how her use of evidence for a personal matter impacts the murder case, but hey!, I'll go with it. I guess it would be something along the lines of tampering with evidence. ?? Hmm. Anyway, thanks again! I appreciate it! -- inquisitiveJulie .... ::waving Hi to all:: .... I'm sure I'll be back with many more questions! LOLOL, 17:09:15 05/04/04 Tue [1]
