I guess I am pretty defensive of Reagan and his record on AIDS. As someone commented earlier, that is partly because I agree with his economic and foreign policy approaches. But it's also because I think Reagan has been subjected to a lot of unjustified criticism about his record on AIDS by the left.

Regarding your analysis of Reagan's alleged comment, I still think that the thrust of the comment was a criticism of promiscuity. Its role in the spread of AIDS is obvious. I don't see how Reagan could really have been uncomfortable with outward manifestations of homosexuality like two men having sex given that he had a gay couple to stay at the White House. Somehow I can't see Reagan saying "Now you guys can stay, but only on condition that you don't have sex" and then setting his secret service men to see if his guests kept their promise.
