Subject: Re De-farbing Bayonet

Is there a way to keep a flimsy bayonet from bending?
Well, no.
Bad bay'nets are in that class of period correct, supplied by the lowest bidder contractor (read here "cheat" or "thief") that is underrepresented in our craft today
OK, for safety sake we skip the exploding muskets and glass strewn desicrated vegetables.
But how about the disintegrating-when-wet brogans, unraveling-seamed pantaloons, and melting-in-the-rain Gee-it-looked-like-felt hats were all cursed by our antecedants?

Just think of all the uses a woefully bent pig sticker:
Sky hook for hanging gear
one-candle chandelier
pot-hook
corpse hook for moving pards to their last resting spot
screw picket

The list is endless
