According to a crash expert, an object falling five feet hits the ground at 18 feet per second. Assuming the rate of fall to be constant (and it is really slower since it ACCELERATES to 18 fps) our .69 round ball fired from a leveled musket would hit the ground at no less than 132 yards down range and then bounce (and engage the target through ricochet as the manual says).
Soooo, the danger area is much deeper than was first imagined
