I am afraid that Victor is right.

What passes for wit in some circles is felt to be plain rude in others, so eventually the fun wears thinner and thinner.

Those given to put downs in the name of amusing repartee might choose to reflect on this. As might the purveyors of inane comments who like to take over otherwise interesting threads.

Well there we all sit now! Wondering whether we are one of those terrible people described above. What an incentive to post!
Another explanation, that probably occurred to more than one of you, is that the untimely demise of the SC has left a sour taste in some people's (or is it peoples' - where are the pedants when you need them) mouths. I am sure we would all get over it if we were not being constantly reminded.
