Yes, well, Kitty has summed it up beautifully for us.

I agree with Mr Meldrew. The reason why I (and many others that I am aware of) hardly visited, leave alone posted on the SC in its later days:

We got spectacularly pissed off at having our views and opinions, however sensibly expressed, rubbished by a small minority of self-appointed know-alls - some of them under rather infantile pseudonyms.

It became a "capital crime" to support any team, nation, sport, political party or way of life that did not meet with the approval of the Bormann & Himmler (or Beria & Stalin - let's not be biased) brigade. Most of the SC regulars (certainly the ones I know) got fed up with reasoned debate being hijacked - and being insulted for our pains.

As the lady said: let's look forward, not back.

Voy (for now) and any new Sunbury Centre that rises phoenix-like from the ashes, have a great chance of becoming similarly friendly, interesting places to be - not Kitty's front room, any more, as she has moved house. But a good place, even so, with iced cakes and buttered toasted muffins.

But only if the few solipsistic (look it up, shysters) bastards who ruined it for everyone else either clean up their acts or bugger off, preferably the latter. I hope the new Editors have the guts to ban you.

Meanwhile, I see the RFU are scaremongering again - unless they get their way in everything, England will have no chance of retaining the World Cup... Try changing the coach and much of the team - that'd be nearer your purpose...
