Ok, here goes.

Sorry about the deletion. Felt on reflection that swearing was unneccessary, tried to remove offending word and failed.
----------------
The gist of what I said is that it should be no surprise that there are so few posters here. Considering the way in which the SC went downhill so rapidly - despite pleas to respect others and realise when a "joke" isn't funny anymore - a considerable number of people were turned off enough to either go elsewhere or just not bother. That an observation is now being made about the dearth of posters on here strikes me as being rather bizarre as it's hardly as if I didn't make it clear on the SC. Just because the forum now says Voy rather than SC at the top, the same people are on here and the same sort of crap is already happening.

My advice to the new owners would be to go one step further than deleting offensive posts and actually ban the offending poster. It is a shame that there are some people who, despite repeatedly being told they're causing offence, think that they are somehow above such trivial considerations as respecting the sensibilities of others. If I was being charitable I'd put it down to stupidity, but it's little more than arrogance because they really think that their concerns as individuals are more important than those of the community as a whole. The concept of everyone having to put up with it whilst being bored senseless by catty, bitchy and clever clever postings isn't an easy one to accept. There wasn't much that could be done on the SC so we all suffered, but any new messageboard should easily be able to incorporate a button which says "ban this arsehole". And verily I say unto you - it should be pressed without hesitation.

As for the references to my house - I likened the SC to my home, albeit an online one. I don't tend to open my door to unwelcome visitors, and if they keep coming back and upsetting my guests, then I either move house, or bolt the doors for good and opt for invite only.

I remain, as ever, bored witless by this sort of thread, and am also bored by my own participation in it. It's been said so many times before.

Yet again it seems I’m to be cast in the role of villain of the piece. This is becoming rather tiresome and irritating.

Alec, I’d really be interested to know what your problem is. When Catherine said “enough is enough” on the SC I was only too pleased because I’d spent weeks fending off personal attacks from various cowardly, anonymous individuals with no intervention from the then Editor. However, when she issued her statement I actually posted in support of that. So please spare me the sort of comment that you’ve just posted.

I’ve supported the SC for several years and have never had a problem with anyone (apart from a famous spat with Adam at one time but we sorted that out over a beer years ago). I’ve enjoyed a long-running and fun battle with my old mate Shawshank which continues to this day with much respect on both sides. (Contradict me, Jack, and I’ll have to kill you)

The recent problem started, as I recall, with a massive sense of humour failure by the England cricket supporters when I dared to offer the opinion that perhaps the Ashes Series was not as important a sporting occasion as, say, a World Cup. Instead of reacting like Shawshank with a laugh, various individuals and one in particular started to harangue me with insults and slanders from the craven cover of their anonymity.

I absolutely refute the charge that I somehow, single-handedly brought the SC to a grinding halt. If that, indeed, is what Catherine seems to be implying in her latest post.

I can think of nothing more boring than a totally anodyne, sanitised message board where no on ever gets excited about anything in case a few feathers get ruffled so I sincerely hope that the new team will adopt a mature and balanced attitude to what sort of a board we want and with which we can all feel comfortable.

This is definitely my last posting on this subject. Let’s move on in a spirit of friendly cooperation. I don’t hold grudges and I hope that others feel the same.
