Subject: LI v Sarries

By the sound of it we were pasted in the scrum, which led to 3 of the Sarries tries.

With Visagie back Sarries have one of the better front rows, and in the medium term we still have 2 substantial lumps of Afrikaaner Beef to bolster our front row.

Thank god we have Saints next up, whose scrum must be at least as ineffectual as ours currently is.

Hopefully Delon has got his " most embarrassing career moments" over in the space of 80 mins and will turn it on at the Gardens.

I think we might need to see Lomu at the madjet in December to get any kind of crowd now for that one.

Largely true, SS old bean, in that the scrum were hard pressed in the first half but the first two Saracens' tries came from the "rub of the green". Both featured balls that bounced in a completely contrary fashion right into the path of the only Saracens that were unmarked. Not much anyone can do about that.

After the break I thought our scrum much improved when Flav and Mike C came on. Pearson was his usual inexplicable self, blowing for things that seemed OK and allowing clear offences to go unremarked. Trying very hard to take an objective view about him but can't help feeling that he pinged us far more than Saracens.

So, all in all, a clear "game of two halves". However I suspect Delon has had, or will have, an uncomfortable interview with Brian Smith not so much for the retaliation but for the ludicrous swan-boating dive that meant he dropped the ball and the try was ruled out.

There will not be a big crowd even if Lomu does appear. The whole thing is a farce.
Is anybody going to bother doing a report? I haven't visited the craic yet, I doubt there will be one there.

Here, have a link to Paddy's report for the time being ... not sure if we'll get a report at the Refugee Camp :

Shawshank - I gather Rautenbach arrived yesterday: I thought I spotted a knackered SA Airlines jumbo gasping for breath as it circled Heathrow! Apparently he is absolutely HUMUNGOUS. Having co-sponsored him, I'm looking forward to see him play!

Alec, I suppose if he is HUMUNGOUS, he would need co-sponsoring to spread the load ;-0

Steve and I sat just in front of a group Suth Iffricans on Sunday and when we asked them what he was like (ie. enquiring how good a player he is) the only thing that they said, in an awestruck whisper, was "Man, he's huge!" "Really?" "Yeah, man, HUGE!"
