Subject: Jefferson Event

Gentlmen,

The Port Jefferson Campaign is shaping up to be a very unique event. You can go the the schedule link and read the event info. You will see that the staff and I are working hard to make sure this is not your TYPICAL small town dog and pony show.

For those of you who do not know, Jefferson was a major port city in Texas from the Early 1800's through the Civil War. The historic area that we will be working in still has many of the original structures, as well as the old brick streets.

I would like to point out a few important features of this event:

1.) We will be doing some fighting (as well as specific living history/1st person scenarios) in the Historic dowtown district of Jefferson. There will be lots of civilian interaction at this event as well.

**It is important to note that we are trying to create a credible story line for Jefferson. It is important that we "get into the mind set" of the story so that the experince can be more meaning full to each soldier. So, feel free to play it up!

2.) We will be issuing rations to Confederate troops Saturday morning (in a couple of unique ways!). The event will be providing a dinner for participants Saturday evening as well as a small breakfast Sunday morning.

3.) The actual event site is 3 miles south of downtown. Both armies will march to the event site at their apointed times. SHUTTLES WILL BE PROVIDED for those who can not make this march. (we will have 2-3 hours to complete the march).

4.) Both armies will have wagon support AND the Federals will have a horse drawn battery. It is not very often that we get to see mobile artillery in action!

5.) The main battle scenarios will be exciting, realistic and take advantage of the terrain. Meaning that we will not simply stand out in the middle of an open field and blast away at one another.

One more important note: The city has offered each army a camp site (each in great historic settings) in downtown Jefferson. The purpose of this is to offer men opporunities to spend the night in town Friday night so that they can beat the shuttle rush Saturday morning. Shuttle will be provided from the event site to Downtown on Friday. - Now, please understand that this is a campaign camp, only because it is temporary. Everyone will need to check in with registration and park their cars at the reenactor parking lot BEFORE going to the downtown camp. Of course, camping downtown is optional.

We look forward to having you with us and making the campaign of Port Jefferson something to remember!

YOS,

Gen. Griffin
