...alex was secretly happy that only the few had been serious, but did feel worried for the younger kids. where did they spend their nights? this was his haven, but it was so great...and it made him feel lucky he wasn't actually on the streets. it was near 2:30 in the morning, a beat up atomic clock read on a wall, and he felt light-headed and tired. maybe everyone else wanted to discuss things, but he wanted to head off to bed. in the morning, it would be safer to make noise. "hey, er...i don't want to disappoint anyone, but if i try to give input tonight it won't make sense...i'm too tired. tomorrow will be safe, and we can talk as we please. anyone else want to sleep?"
he got up as he said this, towards the east sight of the house, where three cots lay, looking inviting. this would be the boys side. natalie, meanwhile, was sleeping upstairs, which was just some steps leading up to a landing with curtain hanging from it for privacy. it was large, and held the four beds, which the girls could have. he repeated this quietly, and searched everyone's face for signs of discomfort.
