Subject: Scam, scam, scam by New Credit Financial

They are a scam. They're coming closer to a semblance of conformity wiht the law, from what I've read here, but they're still scam artists.

They called me and told me that this was in response to a credit application I'd made recently that had been denied. I did make a credit application recently, and I was denied, but didn't realize that third parties could get such information so easily, so I thought that they were affiliated with the people who I made the application with.

As we were talking on the phone, I started giving him my information. He said that they only needed the checking info to verify my status with the bank [i.e. "in good standing," not bouncing checks, etc.]. Asking for that info threw up a red flag for me though, so I started on an Internet search as we exchanged information, and as I asked questions to clarify what he was offering [information that he didn't volunteer, by the way, such as the fact that there was a $200 withdrawl, and that this was a "catalog credit card"].

I found several websites about "New Credit Financial," this being the first one I had time to read fully. By the time he switched me over to the official recorded phone call, I had definitely decided against this "offer" and told him so. He was somewhat rude and hung up on me.

Do you think that I need to do a stop payment? I don't think that they're dumb enough to try anything at this point, because they started their little recording device and I said that I didn't want to follow through with the card. That was also another part of their scam -- when they started the recording, their intro made it sound like *I* was the one calling *them* rather than vice versa.

Personally, I think that the BBB should take these folks out. They've thrown in a few extra twists and turns to lend more of an appearance to conforming with the law, but they're still scam artists.
