Hyperion Lobby –Night Angel, Spike and Illyria enter. Giles, Vi and Andrew are there waiting.

GILES
Spike. It’s good to see you alive again. I can’t quite believe I just said that.
SPIKE
Hello to you too Rupert.

ANGEL
What is it?

GILES

t’s a hoax. There was a shadow outside. We suspect it was a glamour aimed at you.

ANGEL
We figured. Some necromancer must have-

GILES
A necromancer.

SPIKE
We were in the graveyard. To check. We got him up and he fought us. Illyria smelt a spell. Literallly.

GILES
Where is he now?

ILLYRIA
I put him back down.

VI
If the body was used this is getting serious.

ANGEL
Ya’ think?

VI
Oh come on. Doesn’t this all seem petty and badly thought out? Illusion of a dead person, use of a dead person. Logically what’s next? How’s whomever going to lash out?

ANGEL
Illusion of a living person?

ANDREW
You wouldn’t fall for that.

SPIKE
A living person…

ANGEL
He made Wesley keep talking about Lindsey. An evil lawyer guy. I had him killed.

GILES
So you think revenge?

ANGEL
He had a large family. Siblings, parents. People cared.

SPIKE
All fear the Texan invasion. I’ll prepare my cardboard barricades. Whatever it is, someone’s trying to throw you off. Wants to catch you off guard.

ANGEL
To get at what?

GILES
That’s the question. Whatever they wish to get from you, if this is revenge, you probably took from them. You don’t have any surviving relatives. I don’t honestly understand what they want or what it can achieve for them.

ILLYRIA
There is one. You have a relation still.

ANGEL
Oh god. Connor.

SPIKE
Oh.

ANDREW
Who’s Connor?

ILLYRIA
His son.

ANDREW
The vampire birth?

ANGEL
But he’s…he’s alright. I’d know if something was wrong.

SPIKE
You gonna risk that? You take a son…I hope it’s the father. I have issues killing women. Never works out well.

ANGEL
Load up people. Let’s party.

Angel and the other pick up weapons, Andrew picks up equipment. Vi wields a familiar looking scythe. Power shot as they bust out of the Hyperion. They walk on to the main street with a determined appearance.

END OF ACT 2

ACT 3

College Hall Party- Connor is by the bar talking to some very lovely ladies.

CONNOR
Yeah, that dimple’s real. You think I used a drill or something? (laughs)

BABE1
We can’t help it. You’re adorable.

CONNOR
Am I now?

BABE2
Yes you are. We both like you. We both like you a lot.

CONNOR
Really?

BABE1
Really.

Angel shows up, he puts his hands on Connor’s shoulder.

ANGEL
Sorry ladies. He’s with me.

BABE1
Oh my god! Tanya, I thought you said he was straight.

CONNOR
Hey, I am!

BABE1
Then who’s he?

CONNOR
My dad.

BABE2
That would make sense if he like, lost it when he was nine.

BABE1
Do you like, just call him dad? Is it a term?

ANGEL
Hey. He is not gay (aside to Connor) but if you are, that’s fine too.

CONNOR
I am not gay!!

BABE1
Whatever, Tanya, let’s leave them to it.

They go. Connor’s jaw drops a mile.

CONNOR
What was that for?

ANGEL
No time. Someone’s after you. I’ve got some people with me. They have weapons.

CONNOR
Who’s after me?

ANGEL
I had a guy killed. His father is way pissed at me.

CONNOR
Oh, I’m an object of revenge? Cool. What do I have to do?

ANGEL
Try not to get kidnapped or killed.

CONNOR
I can do that.

ANGEL
You’d be surprised. You have a pretty bad track record with this kinda’ stuff.

CONNOR
And who’s fault is that?

The doors burst open. Mr. MacDonald stands there with a gun. He has about 8 or 9 demon guards with him. He fires in the air, students begin to run out as plaster falls from the ceiling. Angel’s crew arrive behind him.

SPIKE (on seeing Mr.MacDonald)
Oh, it’s the dad.

CONNOR
Will everyone please stop saying that?

MR. MACDONALD
Angel I presume.

ANGEL
You must be the Older MacDonald. Do you have a farm?

MR. MACDONALD
Not funny. You killed my son.

ANGEL
Not me.

MR.MACDONALD
A minion, under your command. Why?

ANGEL
He was evil. Tried to kill me a whole bunch’a times. He resurrected Spike, lord knows that annoyed the hell out of me. Oh and did I mention he was evil?

MR. MACDONALD
He was not!

He shoots Angel in the chest. He takes it. The blood spurts out the back onto Connor. His white shirt is stained.

ANGEL
He sold his soul.

MR. MACDONALD
You don’t get it, do you?

ANGEL
Neither do you. I don’t care about Lindsey. This isn’t about him any more. What you did to Wesley is gonna get you killed. And it’s gonna hurt like hell. If I had cared about what I did to him, I don’t any more.

MR. MACDONALD
You’ll be dead first.

ANGEL
Two vampires, one demon god, a slayer and a superhuman. Doesn’t look good does it?

MR. MACDONALD
Kill him!

The demons charge. Vi lobs the head off one and starts pummelling another as Spike snaps the neck off a third. Angel starts kicking away like there’s no tomorrow. Even Andrew and Giles can kill one between them. Illyria is practically throwing demons around the room. Eventually all the demons lie bloodied on the floor.

GILES
Where did Connor go?

Angel looks miserably at the open door before rushing out into the night.

ILYRIA
Should we not follow?

SPIKE
No. Leave this one to the big guy.

Basement –Night, Connor is tied up to a central pillar. A demon guards him. Robert stands in the shadows looking pleased. Mr. MacDonald paces in front of Connor. Abruptly he hits Connor in the face.

CONNOR
Ow. What was that for?

MR. MACDONALD
Revenge.

CONNOR
It doesn’t work.

MR. MACDONALD
Really? (He kicks Connor. Hard.)Seems fine to me.

Connor screams.

CUT TO- Angel running along the rooftops of LA. He stops to sniff the air. He runs and takes a swan dive off a building. He falls gracefully and manages to cling onto a washing line. He falls again onto another line. He repeats the process until he lands on the ground. He jumps through the window next to him. He is in an empty room, he goes up through the ceiling shaft, he crawls along for a bit before he can see Connor below him through the grate.

Basement- Night

CONNOR
It doesn’t work. I did some stuff to Angel. I regret it now.

The demon smacks Connor about the head.

MR. MADONALD
What do you regret now?

CONNOR
That Angel didn’t kill you before. All of you revenge junkies. You’re hopeless. Justice doesn’t come with malevolence.

MR.MACDONALD
That’s a big word for a small boy. You’ll be quiet soon enough. (He pulls out a razor blade) I wouldn’t worry, it’ll be painful enough.

Camera points at Angel’s face through the grate and back at Connor’s terrified face.

CONNOR
He’ll still be dead. It won’t make it better.

MR. MACDONALD
Let’s find out. (He approaches Connor with the blade.) Wanna see how this works?

CONNOR
Wow. Gillette. The best a depraved, psychopathic moron can get.

MR. MACDONALD
You have no idea of the pain. Losing a son. Now Angel will know how it feels.

CONNOR
He already does. He lost me once. He took revenge and it didn’t get better.

MR. MACDONALD
Don’t lie. He can’t know the pain. He can’t.

Mr. MacDonald slashes Connor’s chest and smacks him in the stomach. Connor coughs up blood. Angel’s had it. He drops from the grate and snaps the demon’s neck. MacDonald lunges at Connor with the razor but Connor headbutts him out cold.

CONNOR
Wimp. What took you so long? I could smell you up there.

ANGEL
I like a good drama. Plus, I knew you could handle yourself.

CONNOR
Thanks for the vote of confidence.

LA Street – Giles, Andrew, Vi, Spike and Illyria walk along the road towards the Hyperion.

GILES
So, a resurrection?

SPIKE/ILLYRIA
Yes.

GILES
I meant Spike. How was it?

SPIKE
It was like turning from painful, charred ash into a painful charred ghost.

GILES
Ghost?

SPIKE
I got better.

GILES
Does Buffy know?

SPIKE
No, and don’t tell her. I’ll talk to her when it feels right.

ANDREW
AKA when she stops bumping uglies with the Immortal.

SPIKE
What? They’re bumping now?

ANDREW
No they broke up.

SPIKE
(Happy) Oh?

ANDREW
But then they got back together.

SPIKE
(Sad) Oh.

VI
Be happy for her.

SPIKE (Not really believing himself as he says it)
I refuse to. I feel no way about her. I’ve moved on. New ground, new lease on life. New Spike.

ANDREW
Same old look. When you gonna ditch the coat? Try something new with the hair.

SPIKE
I was thinking of getting blue streaks.

ANDREW
Or how it is. How it is is good.

ILLYRIA
What is wring with blue streaks?

ANDREW
Illyria, darling. For you, perfection. For Spike, it’d be a blemish. He is not worthy of such loveliness.

GILES
You don’t need to grovel Andrew. She won’t kill you.

SPIKE
Not unless you make her really angry. I’ve got bruises to prove it.

ANDREW
Can I see?

SPIKE
No.

Basement –Night

Mr. MacDonald is now the one tied up to the pillar. Connor has taken his jacket off and tied it around his chest to put pressure on his wound. MacDonald comes to.

ANGEL
I’m sorry about your son but I didn’t really have a choice. The world needed Wolfram & Hart to be inactive as long as possible.

MACDONALD
You killed him.

ANGEL
I’m told my name was the last word on his lips. And I’m not sorry. I killed an enemy but I’ve had to sacrifice friends. And you took advantage of that.

MACDONALD
I did what I had to do.

ANGEL
No. You acted in frustration. What did you hope it would do? Showing me him.

MacDonald stays silent. Angel lobs him in the face. There’s blood.

ANGEL
What did you want to achieve?

MACDONALD
I wanted you to feel the pain. I showed you a corpse. It was of your own making. It was your decision. You lost him by giving commands, I lost my son because of you and your stupid commands!

ANGEL
Idiot. I lost four people this year. You think I don’t feel the pain? I know what I told them to do. They knew what would happen, I think even Lindsey did. He knew I’d get him sooner rather than later. I think he figured there was more time. As far as I was concerned he’d been living on a prayer for three years. And something else, this morning I gave up. I wasn’t going to do it again. At all. The pain was too much. You know what you did?

MACDONALD
Pissed you off. Hurt your son. Cut you inside.

ANGEL
You gave me a reason to fight. It’s not about what’s right any more.

Angel and Connor turn and walk away, leaving Mr. MacDonald tied up.

ANGEL
It’s about honouring them. I’ll fight the good fight because they did. And I asked them to. I can at least do the same.

They’re gone. MacDonald begins to cry softly.

MACDONALD
Bastard.

LA Street –Night, Angel and Connor walk along.

CONNOR
Why didn’t you kill him?

ANGEL
It wasn’t right, he acted in pain. I’ve explained myself to him and if he does it again he knows I’ll kill him. You should get home.

CONNOR
Yeah. My parents are getting pretty freaked about all my cuts and scrapes. I guess that’s what happens when you go out playing Boy Wonder.

ANGEL
I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ll send you over another jacket.

CONNOR
Leather?

ANGEL
We’ll see.

CONNOR
So did you?

ANGEL
Did I what?

CONNOR
This morning, give up.

ANGEL
Yeah. I thought the bright, shiny moment wasn’t worth it. I guess it meant more than I thought.

CONNOR
You weren’t expecting to survive it.

ANGEL
No. I wasn’t prepared for that. I thought I’d die and that would be final. I didn’t think I’d have to take in all the pain.

CONNOR
You’ve still got me.

ANGEL
That I do have.

CONNOR
I’ll see you around?

ANGEL
Count on it.

They part, both a little stronger in their stride.

END OF ACT 3

ACT 4

Hyperion Lobby –Night, Angel arrives and sees all the others chatting.

VI
Hey. Is everything OK?

ANGEL
Yeah. Connor’s fine. I also learned a little something today. (He smiles)

ILLYRIA
Pray, spare us the sentimentality.

SPIKE
See? She’s known you three months and she’s already fed up of you.
GILES
Well, I’d best be off. I have business to attend to in Rio.

ANDREW
With Willow?

GILES
Yes, she needs some help negotiating a truce with some particularly stubborn shamans. They seem to keep sacrificing goats to non-deities. She’s convinced it breaches some regulation on human rights.

ANDREW
What does Kennedy think?

GILES
That Willow’s cute when she’s opinionated.

ANGEL
Giles, thanks for the backup.

GILES
No mention needed. I’m glad you’re out of that damned firm I have to say. Good luck.

ANGEL
Thanks.

GILES
Vi?

VI
Oh, me. Yeah

Giles and Vi pick up their bags and leave. Everyone looks at Andrew.

ANDREW
What?

SPIKE
Aren’t you going?

ANDREW
No. You’re stuck with me. I’m taking up permanent residence here.

SPIKE
Bloody hell.

ANDREW
You can stay here if you want.

SPIKE
No thanks. I prefer my place.

ANGEL
Seriously?

SPIKE
No. I’m just not staying with him. Need my own digs. Always have done.

ILLYRIA
You will be alone. I like the space here. The walls are quiet.

ANDREW
How about you Angel? Will you make a dashing return to your former residence?

ANGEL
Hmm, Andrew or Spike? Spike or Andrew? Yeah. I’m staying here.

SPIKE
Ponce.

ANGEL
Wait? Are you upset?

SPIKE
No. Well…y-no. I’m not. Go your own merry way. I don’t care.

ANGEL
Spike.

SPIKE
I mean it. I like my place as it is. I’ve got a fridge full of beer and blood, a bed, a TV and a toilet. What more could I possibly need?

ANGEL
Company?

SPIKE
Don’t miss me Angelcakes. I’ll still come and visit.

ANGEL
Angelcakes?

ANDREW
Aww, you guys are sweet.

ANGEL/SPIKE
No we’re not.

ANDREW
OK. No need to get grouchy.

SPIKE
Well, I’ll be off then. Stop by for your stuff later.

He leaves

ANDREW
So, you’re back here then?

Angel looks around. So much has happened since has was last here.

ANGEL
Looks like. There’s just this thing I need to do.

Tropical Beach –Sunset, Nina is watching the sun go down. The colours play in the sea and lap the shore. As the sun goes down and the sky turns red Nina sips a cocktail. Angel approaches her from behind.

NINA
Hey

ANGEL
How did you?

NINA
Just did. (She turns around) OK, I heard the shoes. No one wears loafers like that on a beach. Besides, I kinda hoped you’d be wearing Speedo’s.

ANGEL
Well, I came back for you.

NINA
To rescue me from this warm-climate hell?

ANGEL
I know hotter hells than this.

NINA
I bet you do. So is everything OK?

ANGEL
Yeah. I think now it is. Just a few monsters to kill here and there. The usual. Parking still costs a bomb.

NINA
Silly, I meant with you.

ANGEL
I’ll be OK. Someone got me back on track; occasionally I just need a push.

NINA
How about a pull?

ANGEL
Doesn’t sound too bad.

Angel pulls Nina towards him and they kiss, silhouetted in the blood-red sky.

Graveyard –Day, Andrew and Illyria are sitting by Wesley, Gunn and Cordy’s graves. They all have new flowers on them. Illyria sits down by Wesley and starts stroking the letters that spell out his name.

ANDREW
I’m sorry.

ILLYRIA
Don’t be.

ANDREW
It must have been horrible, seeing him like that.

ILLYRIA
It was painful. I mourn for him (gestures towards Gunn and Cordy) and these…And I feel guilt I do not feel as sorry for them.

ANDREW
Did you love Wesley?

ILLYRIA
He…helped me. It was for Fred. It was the only way he could mourn her without a grave. I am thankful to him for that.

ANDREW
Do you think he knew?

ILLYRIA
I think so.

ANDREW
I always thought, when you’re gone, you become omnipresent. You get to watch the ones you love and guide them.

ILLYRIA
Wesley has become my God?

ANDREW
No, he’s just watching the Illyria show.

ILLYRIA
Maybe.

ANDREW
We should go.

ILLYRIA
Yes. I prefer the hotel to Wolfram and Hart. I could smell blood there.

ANDREW
What do you think’ll happen to it now?

ILLYRIA
I do not care.

Camera zoos out, we see Illyria and Andrew sitting by the graves, on the grass, in the sun.

EXT- WOLFRAM & HART- Establishing Shot

INT- Wolfram & Hart –Day

A woman walks along the corridors. The décor is all-new with an oppressive gothic feel to it. There are many old paintings and stone features. The walls are dark reds. We can’t see the woman; all we can see are her shoulders and the long, black hair that trails down them. An aide walks along at her side. As the following dialogue occurs the woman walks along a corridor, through the lobby and into her office.

AIDE
We hope you’ll be happy here Miss. We’ve redecorated to your tastes. We could have music in your office? Any preferences? No. OK. Well, you have a full work staff. We had to resurrect a few of our best; the previous CEO didn’t see their full potential. But still, the can do whatever you want, get you what you need. Say the word and things’ll happen. You are in charge here. You are supreme.

They’ve moved into the office. The lady sits behind a desk. We can see her fully now. White skin, black hair, red lips.

DRUSILLA
I should like that. I should like that very much.

FADE TO BLACK
