Jon looked at her quietly for a moment, not sure what to say or do, biting his lip. He hated seeing girls cry, seeing them upset, he never knew what to do with himself. And he always felt guilty, even if it had nothing to do with him. He stood and sat next to her on the floor, hesitantly putting his arm around her shoulders and holding her close, but not looking at her. He knew this was very inappropriate and that if one of the students or teachers came in he'd be in more trouble than he could guess. But he didn't know what else to do. And in times like this words were useless so there wasn't much else he could do. Jon didn't know much about Sara's home life, she never spoke of it, but from what he had seen and heard from others, it wasn't very good. Jon sighed softly and looked out the square boring windows in his room. "I know things can seem terrible now, but in a few years it won't mean anything. Guys like James will live out their lives the way they want and they'll think its great but later in life they'll realize it wasn't." He told her. There had been plenty of jocks like James in his school. Some of them had gotten scholarships to college, a few of them hadn't and would spend the rest of their lives driving taxis or working at grocery stores, sleeping with an endless stream of women to compensate for the meaninglessness in their lives. He looked at Sara. "But you're not going to be like that Sara, i can already see that. You're going to take all this and rise above it one day." He told her. He thought of bringing up her writing, because one of the reasons he was getting her in these writing contests was to show her she had talent and that she could always poor all these things that happened to her into her writing, use it as her outlet. And that it would get her places, get her away from all this. But he decided not to. This wasn't the time.
