It's true Nathan wasn't held by his mother Shelley Laporte, but that was because Shelley chose not to hold him. I worked for the company that provided medical equipment for Nathan. Nathan also received 24/7 private duty nursing care from the same company. One of the nurses refused to return to the home stating she was certain that Nathan's medical problems were due to Munchausen Syndrome by proxy. She stated when Nathan was 3 yrs old, he would disconnect his ventilator and 24 hour pulse oximeter, climb out of his crib, and run around his room. his mother requested numerous sets of lead wires every month for the oximeter because the lead wires were ruined every time Nathan self disconnected himself. The lead wires were connected to the oximeter at one end, and to one of his toes at the other end. She also stated that whenever Nathan did this, Shelley would punish him by removing his only sources of entertainment; his books and his TV. Nathan was never allowed to leave his room to play with his other quad brothers and sister, or to eat a meal with his family. If Nathan was developmentally disabled, It was because his mother kept him a prisoner in his own room. When he reached the age to attend pre-school and Kindergarten, Nathan was not allowed to go. So, Nathan Laporte really is developmentally disabled, not because of medical injuries, but by mental injuries inflicted by his mother.
