Subject: Cell-Phone Cards Available This Weekend

I'll bring a bunch of laminated cards w/CCC riders' cell-numbers to Saturday's and Sunday's rides. They will fit easily into underseat packs, pockets, &c.

The folks listed represent a pretty good cross-section of our A and B Groups. But, to state the obvious, the cards won't "work" unless you know the names of your groupmates and unless you've verified that they are riding with their phone on such and such a day.

So I suggest that at the outset of each ride, group leaders make sure that everyone knows who's "carrying".

While collecting this info, I encountered one observation that I found particularly interesting. One of our supercitizens expressed concern that some riders weren't properly maintaining their bikes and would therefore be more likely to need to call for help than riders with well-maintained bikes would. Good point.

So I suggest that we all recognize that calling for help represents an important part of a larger matter. We should all make sure to keep our rides in good shape so we only have to call for help when something unforeseeable or unpreventable or flat-out horrible happens.

Anyhow, I think collecting cell-#'s was a terrific idea, and thanks to whoever came up with it (I can't remember anymore, but it wasn't me).

Please keep me apprised of changes in your number. I'll issue updated versions of the cards every few months.
