Unless other Polar users or former Polar users know something I don't (always a possibility), you're out of luck: you'll have to send the unit back.

A tip if you decide to move ahead with this: use the outfit in Michigan (see Polar's website), and call them before you ship the unit, stressing that you rely on it and would like a quick turnaround. I did this twice; and, although being w/out the unit was a nuisance, the turnaround time was gratifyingly brief and the folks in Michigan were extremely helpful.

Send the packet via courier, making sure that it's sufficiently insured.
