I agree they must pass the grade and it is high but full mastery is not needed--perhaps adeptship is a better word.

TM and Mahesh Yogi seem teach the idea that no devotion or morals are necessary---simply teach mantra meditation and all will work out. This is a sales ploy.

I think to say that one must become adept at karma and bakti yogas / right attitude / or yama niyama before meditation starts is basically saying the same thing. I know Daya Mata is huge on right attitude---thats what she calls it. She sums up by saying one cannot ride roughshod over others all day and have a good meditation at night.
