Yoganandaji told Doc Lewis to eat lamb once a week due to some ailment.

A YSS monk told me that he also said (along with Vivekananda) that Indians (probably non-yogis) should eat the meat rather than waste the food due to the shortage of food in general.

In the lessons he says it is ok to eat fish and fowl on occasion but avoid beef and pork. This is the way they seem to do it in Bengal---I heard the monks there eat eggs and fish and perhaps fowl. Does anyone eat pork in India?---I have never heard of it. I know Muslims dont eat it and Hindus dont eat beef in general.

My own experience is that unless you ARE meditating many hours a day the meat ingestion is not an issue. More important for me is to eat sparingly bu I do find red meat is too filling to meditate 3 hours later. But if you need "toughness" it isnt bad once a week.
