It's from my experience; it may not be the case to everybody. When I was focusing in the center of the head my breathing just gone down so slow I was hardly breathing and I have enjoyed doing it. I guess it became a habit to the mind, after some months of practice, in sleep, I started observing that I was getting up to grasp breath, and then I stopped it doing altogether and I felt that was not prescribed for me. I generally sound caution to avoid it, if that is not part of the routine in the spiritual practice.
