Day passed to night shrouding the small clearing in starspeckled light. After a time beds were sought and sleep claimed all three. Waking with a start from a slumber that had been restless to begin with, she peered through the moonlit darkness. A sound of twigs snapping under a heavy tread, the feeling of something ominious approaching. Moving to her feet silently, she crept from the cave and slipped in front, a staff forming in her hands of pure energy. The light it gave off was bright enough to see with, and her eyes narrowed at what stood before her. The demon Onimaru stood just at the edge of the clearing and looked like he was more than angry about something.
"Give me back my daughter, I have plans for her that you shall not interfere with. The demoness I put in charge of her was a fool, sentimental and soft hearted. Besides, admit it, you don't want her, not near you, nor even as your own child. Return her to me at once and I'll let you live."
Looking back over her shoulder she saw with annoyance that neither Tiani nor Jin had awakened with the sound of the demon's voice. At the crunch of leaves she whirled around and swung with the staff, and fought with every ounce of strength and skill she possessed. Spinning away from the demon to gather herself, she snarled at him.
"You won't have my daughter you monster. She won't be a pawn in some twisted game. I won't let you have her, not now, not ever!"
The demon laughed at her and attacked, seeming to hold nothing back, yet never landing a blow. Backing away she spun at the touch on her shoulder, ready to fight whatever came from behind, and woke up. She stared at Jin, the staff in her hand melting away as the realistic dream vanished.
