Altrez staggered along in the sand, his wings umbrella'd over his head and shielding him from the assault of deadly scales even though one caught him in the arm.
"Ariel! What were you thinking!? These elves have no defence against a Crystal Dragon!"
It was more of a yell of shock than scolding as he made his way to her. Her one of her wings up up over her head and the other sheltering one of the mages that had come out to reinforce the shield. Blood oozed from a slice along her cheek.
"Well what was I supposed to do? Let it try to eat me? Out over the water alone?!" she shot back.
Her eyes were wide with shock as well as she realized who was yelling at her. The two just stared at each other before the clanging of scales on metal shook them from their reunion.
"We'll get save the tearful reunion for later. Right now, the elves?" Altrez said softly as Ariel's face blushed over.
"Right."
Ariel bent down and scooped up one of the razor sharp scales on the sand. It was very small, only the side of a dime. She held one hand over it and started to mumble a spell of her own over the scale. The scale started to glow as well as her White Wind symbol, and it vaporized in a puff of steam. Then the sound of diamonds on metal ceased as the sound turned to water. All the scales in the sand disappeared as the sand absorbed the water.
"Now!"
Altrez lowered his wings, and instead of being bombarded by a shower of death, it was only rain, and he took the spell one of the mages was working on.
"You're going far too slow my friend."
It was only a spell to fix the holes in the shield, but Altrez had a better idea. He clamped his hands over the glowing sphere of the partially formed spell and mumbled one of his own.
He formed the spell to something more complete and everything about him was speckled with the glow of small prisms, then he turned his face up into the rain and threw the spell for the shield. It flew through the air, leaving a tail of rainbow colors in its wake before striking the shield. The shield wavered and rippled like water, cascading down in a perfect sphere dome, and the rain ceased just as suddenly. On the ouside of the shield, the rain battered down before turning back into scales, Ariel's short spell worn off.
But none of them came back through. He'd reinforced the shield exponatially times what it had been, far more powerful than what the mages could have done. Altrez dropped to his knees afterwards, panting. He still had a lot of recooperating to do.
Ariel looked up at the dragon hovering over the prism like dome of energy, a simple warding spell wasn't enough. He had to made a real shield. The dragon looked pretty angry, as her vision gift informed her. But she had a feeling it wasn't just because they stopped its assault.
Ariel was sure she was going to have some question's to answer, once they fixed her screw up. Instead of worrying about that, she started going around, and healing wounds, the most serious first. This was going to take a while.
