The thing twisting around her legs paused for a moment as though listening to something only it could hear. Abruptly the sensation of fur pressing against her vanished, and she felt drawn down into the void of slumber, the faint scrapings fading away from her consciousness. Before sleep could truly claim her she felt something cold brush against her, and it felt as though it had sunk into her skin without leaving a trace of itself behind. Drawn down into the folds of sleep, coppery eyes still open for a brief moment after the fall, a faint flicker of shadow chases across the iris before swirling around the pupil and merging with it. It would not matter where she went, or how cleverly she was pursued, there would always be a shadow within her.
