Other:On her long journey home from school after a fight which will surely lead to her expulsion, Kari ponders her futureas she trudges throught the immense forest called Green Cloak. But her thoughts are interupted by a clatter of hooves, as a galloping horse bursts from the woods, the rider slumped over his mount's neck, his back impaled by two black-shafted arrows. As the young man lies dying on the road, he tells Kari that he is a Green Rider, one of the legendary messengers of the kanig, and that he carries a "life and death" message for King Zahcary. He begs Karigan to carry his message, warning her not to read it, and when she reluctantly agrees, he makes her swear on his sword to complete his mission "for love of country". As he bestows upon her the golden-winged horse brooch which is the symbol of his office, he whispers on his dying breath, "Beware the shadow man....". Now Karigan has completed her mission, and has become a real Green Rider, but she has to deliver a new message, warning all in Balinor about a danger far greater than any that is approaching.
She pulls up her mount, a chestnut horse stallion built for speed and agility, not looks, up to a halt in the middle of the dirt road. She looks quickly around, and sees the Palace. She starts ride toward it, but is stopped by a young man named....(someone fill in this position)
