I am not a coach, nor am I affiliated with a club, nor am I related to a gymnast. However, this does not mean that I do not have an educated opninion. I find it bizarre that people (who possibly have a high position in this sport?) now believe ballet to be unimportant in Rhythmic Gymnastics. I am NOT talking about ballet from a routine choreographical point of view, I am talking about the body technique of gymnasts. Let's look at Daria Andronova's masterpiece in Torino...how do you think she achieves such elevation and purity of technique in pirouettes? By doing disco dancing? By classical ballet of course. The basis of Rhythmic Gymnastics is ballet, so why are only some clubs doing it on a regular basis?? We should lead by example, I find Francesca Jones a very well trained gymnast with a very strong ballet basis, however I do not see this in younger gymnasts.
