Funny and interesting to read posts from 3 years ago.

And if you keep on hitting, next thread, there are a lot more posts to read.

Unlike you folks, I'm not laughing. I've got that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. This is a tragedy not a comedy.

It was interesting to see that the concerns of three years ago haven't changed that much nor has attendance at AHY. The fact is that the average attendance at AHY has declined every year since the move in 2001/2002. Only three times in 5 years at AHY did we draw more than 5000 for a game and that was only in the 2002/2003 NIT season. Fairfield has never even averaged 3000 per season dispite being back to back 19-12 and 19-11.

The real tragedy is that the University has failed to energize it's students, reconnect with it's alumni, or to address the situation with an effective marketing plan and correct the problem.

Boy, reading the last two posts makes its sound like we never had any exciting games with good atmosphere at Harbor Yards, which is just not true, and some of them have been great atmosphere. The problem is that, there just has not been enough of those. Only 20% of our games.....12 of 50 have been over 3,200, and only 10% of them have been over 4,000. We need more of those not the 1,700 type games.

I would not call it a tragedy that we never averaged 3,000 fans per game. The tragedy is that we did not increase attendance, nor season tickets during back to back 19 win seasons. Nobody said this was going to be easy, but it needs to go in the right direction.

I have been to exciting Fairfield games at AHY, some with good crowds and some not, also some with great atmosphere too. While it was great fun either way, I agree with you that there just has not been enough of those.

I would still call it a tragedy though that after the first season, with an average attendance of 2835, the University failed to increase the attendance dispite back to back almost 20 win seasons; and the numbers have gone down hill every year. I agree with you that nobody did say it was going to be easy but hopefully the new administration will have a better marketing plan to the students, alumni and the local fan.

I don't even know if winning will bring in much bigger crowds. Iona is 13-3 and have an exciting team led by Burtt who has been in the top ten in scoring all season. For the game with FF, they didn't get 2,000. IMO, that should have been a sell out. The apathy among college students towards most mid major b-ball programs is really sad.

No matter how you slice it, the UNIVERSITY HAS FAILED and if they were a public corporation the stock holders would never tolerate this behavior. But, unfortunately, this is academia not the real world. They wonder why alumni giving is below average--just another symptom of the same disease.
